about
So You’re Not Alone is another taste of the grandiose sound that pervades the album. The song once again proofs that singer and songwriter Morten Fillipsen is not only incredibly skilled at his craft – he also possesses a voice that can secure him an international breakthrough.
It follows 1st single Wish that hit radiostations in Denmark, Germany, England and Ireland. Nordic Spotlight (US) called it a pulsing pop masterpiece and Soundkartell (Germany) described it as melancholic, dreamy and wonderful.
The melody for the song was written years ago.
”One day I bought a cheap old mandolin at an auction in Sweden and when I started to play it the theme was the first thing that came out. When I started singing it all suddenly made sense and the melody was litterally written within minutes ” says the In Memoirs-singer.
Although the melody came really easy, it was much harder to pen the lyrics for the song.
”It has been one of the hardest songs for me to write. The song is about my uncle, who died of cancer at a far too early age. I kept putting off writing the lyrics, because I knew that it would be extremely difficult for me. I finally got around to do it and I am very happy with the way it turned out. Personally I think that it is one of the strongest songs I have ever written. It is a fantastic, beautiful popsong with a catchy melody and important lyrics”
It is no secret that song is deeply personal for Morten Fillipsen, which is also underlined by his choice of coverart. The photo is from a family holiday in Rhodes with his uncle who died two months later. There is also some hidden symbolism in the stunning music video which is filmed in one take.
Morten explains: ”There is some symbolism throughout the entire music video. The song is about my uncle who died of cancer and that we in the family had to bury our hopes deep underground. The video is filmed underground in a basement and I pick up a plant in the dark and go out and up to plant a tree – start a new life where another ended.”
lyrics
So You're Not Alone
Now I know - we're only bones
Kill all your hopes and bury them under ground
Your body broke - but not your mind and soul
And like the oak - you will always stand tall
You can't control your heart
- but you're not alone
Now we give our goodbyes with soaking eyes
You can't control your heart
- but you're not alone.
We'll be right by your side through darkest times
Dearest you - so heavenly true
You pushed me to the edge
- but had your arm stretched
We live our lives untill the time stops
Without a fear - as long as love is near
You can't control your heart
- but you're not alone
Now we give our goodbyes with soaking eyes
You can't control your heart
- but you're not alone.
We'll be right by your side through darkest.
Times when I were a liar
- I couldn't accept the truth
A part of me is a part of you
